Self-improvement is often treated as a collection of isolated goals—building confidence, learning new skills, developing better habits, or becoming more disciplined. But lasting transformation requires something more. It requires a holistic approach.
This book presents a practical framework that brings together the essential dimensions of personal growth into one integrated system. Rather than focusing on a single aspect of development, it shows how genuine and lasting change occurs when your beliefs, abilities, habits, and actions work together.
Through this book, you will discover how to:
• Build a strong value system that shapes your character and guides your decisions. • Develop the competencies needed to navigate life’s personal and professional challenges. • Establish a habit scheme that transforms good intentions into consistent action. • Cultivate the self-discipline that binds every element into a sustainable way of life. • Pursue lasting health, success, happiness, and fulfillment through balanced personal growth.
Grounded in research yet written in a clear and practical style, this book combines timeless principles, scientific insights, reflective exercises, self-assessments, and real-life examples to help you understand not only what to improve, but how meaningful transformation actually happens.
Whether you are a student, educator, professional, leader, entrepreneur, or simply someone seeking a more purposeful life, A Holistic Approach to Self-Improvement offers a complete roadmap for becoming your best self—one intentional step at a time.
I am a teacher, writer, and lifelong learner with diverse interests in prose and poetry, education, research, language learning, and personal growth and development. My primary advocacy is the promotion of self-improvement.
Teaching, writing, and lifelong learning form the core of my passions. I taught subjects aligned with my interests in academic institutions in the Philippines and South Korea. When not engaged in academic work, I dedicate time to writing stories, poems, plays, and scholarly studies, many of which are published on my personal website (madligaya.com). I write in both English and my native language, Filipino.
Several of my research studies have been presented at international conferences and published in internationally indexed journals. My published papers can be accessed through my ORCID profile: https://orcid.org/0000-0002-4477-3772.
Outside of teaching and writing, I enjoy reading books related to my interests, creating content for my websites and social media accounts, and engaging in self-improvement activities.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
Interesting: most self helf lacks holism and it’s either too much about hustle culture or, on the other hand of the spectrum, too much airy fairy, new agey mumbo jumbo
This is actually the 2nd edition of the book I published through Amazon last year (“Paradigm For Self-Improvement”). I decided to come out with a second edition because I realized I need to add the “How To…” section for each of the constructs presented in Part II of the book. I also figured that the current title is better than the original one.
I have a section here in my website which I christened “Road To Self-Improvement.” That section was born out of the pursuit of my advocacy on self-improvement. That’s where the idea of coming out with this book came out. That advocacy started some years ago a friend asked me what is the best national development framework for the Philippines. I told him that for Philippines to develop as a nation, Filipinos need to stop from the mindset that “a messiah will come to save our country from the socio-political and economic quicksand where we are currently drowning.” Filipinos think that they can pin their hopes of a better future… a better life… on a leader/politican they believe and support (most of the times blindly). Whoever they will elect to the seats in the Executive and Legislative branches of government WILL NEVER MOVE the needle of progress and peace.
So, what is the best framework for national devleopment? I believe that if every Filipino will embrace self-improvement, try to achieve their full potential, individually they can improve in every aspect of life. When that happens they succeed and will have the capability to improve not only themselves but their respective families. When every Filipino and their family try be better, just individually and as a family, imagive what kind of place the community where they live will be. And if every community in our towns, cities, and provinces will be like that, we will have a stronger Philippine society, a stronger Filipino nation.
It is time for Filipinos to abandon the mindset that we can pin our hopes on a strong politician or leader — a messiah, a savior. Every Filipino should pin their hopes on themselves. Filipinos must bet on themselves, not on someone who promises them the moon and the stars during an election. Betting on a leader to single-handedly bring our nation to paradise is like betting on a lottery with 45 numbers to choose from — your odds of winning are 1 in more than 8,000,000. It’s like fishing for one single fish in a fishing area the size of the entire Pacific Ocean.
