Tadhana

Baka pag-ikot nito ika’y magulungan
Swerte’y h’wag hintayin baka ‘di ka datnan
Likhain ito sa sariling hulmahan.

Kakahinatnan mo h’wag sa baraha silipin
Buhay ay ‘di sugal h’wag mong balasahin
Talino’t lakas pangukit  na gamitin
Sa tadhanang sa bato nais lilukin.

Sa mga tala’y h’wag ibulong ang hiling
Wala silang tenga upang ika’y dinggin
Manapa’y sa Panginoon manalangin
Tulungan kang pangarap ay iyong kamtin.

Bawat desisyon na iyong gagawin
Mag-isip nang maayos, h’wag madaliin
Bawat anggulo ay dapat mong silipin
Ligaya’t tagumpay mo dapat tiyakin.

    • Hi Ren! Which words in particular? You were born here but left when you were 6 so you didn’t have a chance to learn more Filipino words.

      • Almost all the words you used here, unfortunately. I don’t even know the meaning of the title. Do Filipinos use these words in normal conversation ? I can speak conversational Filipino. I

  2. Most of the words I used are common ones used in normal conversation in Filipino. Although I wove some parts idiomatically which may appear difficult to understand to those whose vocabulary in Filipino is limited. What for some maybe considered uncommon are the words nagsikhay (work hard), lumbay (sadness), nasadlak (fall into disgrace or shame), timon (rudder), layag (sail) and pisi (string or cord). Tadhana in English is destiny and pandayin to shape. The poem is basically about shaping our own destiny leaving nothing to chance and not relying on luck.

  3. Dapat tayong maging “ang panday.” Pwede ring “vulcanizer” – nagkukumpuni ng ating gulong ng palad. 🙂

Naibigan ko ang iyong tula kabayan.Napadaan lang po.
