Dotorimuk-muchim

도토리묵무침 – Dotorimuk-muchim (Seasoned acorn jelly)

The restaurants here offer dotorimuk muchim  as a side dish but I have already experienced having a lunch or a dinner when I visited friends in their homes where it was served not as a side dish but as the main food (as you could see in the video).

When I first saw it, I really thought it was a brown-colored tofu. The taste and texture were different. I was told that dotorimuk is made from acorn, not mashed soybeans.

The acorn jelly in the video was seasoned with soy sauce, sugar, garlic, green pepper, and shredded red pepper. Added were perilla leaves but I am pretty sure that it is also possible to add other vegetables to it.
